Book Review: Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

My Rating: 5/5 Stars
Author: Leigh Bardugo
Genre: Fantasy
Published: 2015

Yes! You guys have no idea how happy I was to finally be reading this duology. The Grisha trilogy is one of my favorites and Leigh Bardugo did not disappoint. Six of Crows was everything I was hoping for.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can't pull it off alone...

A convict with a thirst for revenge
A sharpshooter who can't walk away from a wager
A runaway with a privileged past
A spy known as the Wraith
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes

Kaz's crew are the only ones who might stand between the world and destruction—if they don't kill each other first.

My Review:

Usually I start of by talking about the main character but this book came from six (sometimes seven) POV. I  usually hate when there's more than one person telling the story. I allow two or thee people  but if it's more then that everything gets confused and all messed up. But Leigh Bardugo did such an amazing job handling this. I actually preferred the story that way. Each character had their own distinct voice. Even if you hadn't read which character was narrating you knew s who you were dealing with after a few sentences.

My favorite character had to be Inej. She just seems to have been though so much and I love that instead of breaking she became stronger. And seriously how can you not love someone who has knives hidden in her pants?!

I love (LOVED) the tension between Kaz and Inej. I love that their feelings creep out and grab them at a moments notice. I love the way Kaz denies himself because of his fears and how Inej is holding out hoping he'll change for her and not excepting anything else. That scene at the need of them on the boat? Yeah I died.

"She'd laughed, and if he could have bottled the sound and gotten drunk on it every night, he would have. It terrified him"

I loved the Grisha world but in this book we get to see more. We get to see how certain people feel about the Grisha (something I was curious about). Just how far the hatred or envy for them goes. We get to see the different countries and spend a lot of time thinking about and in the Ice Court. I love it. The different races, languages, and countries. And I love how Ketterdam has a little bit of it all. Can I please visit Ketterdam?

The last thing I'm going to talk about is the skills of the crew. I mean we have one of the greatest groups in YA history here. A thief, a spy, a sharpshooter, a Heartrender, a convict, and well, Wylan. So it only makes sense that this book is packed with action. And Leigh has a talent for fight scenes. You're on your toes constantly and you can't seem to catch your breath. And on top of that you can't help but love every member of this sorry lot.

This book is a must read. It has something for everyone and it's so well written it just might bring tears to your eyes. Also side note you don't have to read The Grisha trilogy to be able to enjoy this one. This is a different story though there are some familiar places and names mentioned.
